Thursday it was warm sunny beach weather, so this time the Fredlee’s took a really lazy stroll over the broad wet sands that the ebbing tide had left behind, to Sint Maartenszee. Huge billowing white clouds hang back above the dunes to our right. Their was again lots of activity on the beach as holiday makers enjoyed the late afternoon sun and the rolling waves.The beach was strewn with windbreakers and sandcastles. The terrace at our favorite beach cafe was really busy but we managed to find a good table looking out across the sea and quickly ordered bitter balls and Duvels to toast Esther’s birthday, then sat back to read our e-books and bask in the hot sun.Dark clouds gathered but glided away over the dunes seemingly ignoring us…until suddenly, when least expected, a cloud burst right above us and a deluge of rain fell. I had just gone to the loo inside but when I heard the tremendous clatter on the corrugated roof, I rushed out to see Mr. Fredlee, in a flurry, gathering up our mobiles, cameras, binoculars, my handbag, e-readers, rucksack and sandals and scurring across the wet wooden boards with a waiter, arms full of cushions, in his wake. Our Duvels stood on the table still, the glasses quickly filling with rain!! Within minutes the shower passed, the sun shone brilliantly again and a faint rainbow smirked above the dunes. We walked slowly back across the rain pitted sands watching a dark cloud burst hanging ominously above Petten.The rest of the warm evening we sat out on our apartment balcony. Mr. Fredlee quickly sprinted at 21:45 to the Sea dyke to capture a stunning sunset on camera, which I could just about see from the balcony as a deep violet glow above the dunes! We sat out on the balcony for the first time ever until the sky had turned pitch black and the Jackdaws and the rest of Petten were sound asleep in there nests!

Hij blijft maar ondergaan…
