Cologne stole Mr and Mrs Fredlees hearts! The magnificent gothic cathedral with it’s beautiful stain glass windows (the pixel pattern was one of our favourites!) still in festive spirit with lots of twinkling christmas trees. The iron railway bridge, which we arrived across, spanning the river Rhine that we walked across and back a few times, admiring all the love padlocks on the iron railings. The modern Ludwig Museum, with the totally breath taking and fantastic Hockney exhibition – Hans managed to snap just one photo inside from the hip on his mobile while the museum attendant wasn’t watching! The spacious Dom square and the narrow side streets all still decorated for christmas. Papa Joes with German 30′s swing music and the Standige Vertretung pub ( the red chapel) the walls covered with photos of left wing politicians like Willy Brandt and Nikata Kruschev. All beautifully clustered together around the Köln HBF railway station, and just two and a half hours away by train from Amsterdam!
The Fredlees will definitely be back!
