Busy busy with a new commission for children’s magazine KLEUR! But I really love beginning a new commission, especially making the first sketches. The secret is to get enough information, movement and balance into the sketches but not to loose them, rub them out, cramp up and draw them too stiffly, when making the definate illustrations.This chapter is about a fight, romp, dance sport from Brazil called Capoeira and I have to depict six Capoeira movements so that a primary school class can try them out in their lessons at school. Here are the first sketches – plus pencil lines, mistakes, ink blotches, smears, rubber bits, weird expressions, warts and all! And here, two weeks later, is the finished and definite Capoeira illustration..
